While rumors of Spider-Man coming back to Marvel begin to grow with each new reveal from the Sony hack, it seems like the main actor behind the hero right now won't be coming with it.

Sony Wanted Original 'Spider-Man' Director To Return To Franchise To Save The Series

Latino Review reported on Friday that if Marvel gets Spider-Man back, they would re-cast Andrew Garfield in the lead role. The actor has played Peter Parker for the last two movies after taking over for Tobey Maguire.

According to the site, not only would Garfield go, but any previous films (including the three made by Sam Raimi) would be non-canonical. They added that the idea is that the Spider-Man romance movie has been played out over five installments, so any new Spider-Man films would focus on the difficulties of being a teenager and a superhero with a romance side-story, not the film's focus.

Spider-Man Deal Between Sony & Marvel Not Dead As Hero Could Still Join The Avengers

Marvel also thinks that the origin story is well-trodden territory, so any Spider-Man movies under this deal would begin with Peter Parker already leading a dual life.

It was somewhat assumed that if this deal took place that Marvel would want to do their own thing with the brand especially with the recent negative reception to the other films. While Garfield hasn't been the person taking the most blame for the failures, he would be a victim of Marvel looking to purge the brand and start again with their leadership.

Comic Book Movie also reported on Friday that Marvel directors Anthony and Joe Russo (who directed Captain America: Winter Soldier and upcoming Civil War) have proposed to Sony a plan that would allow the two to produce any future movies in order to help with the content.

As of now Sony still holds the cards, but it could change with a decision looming over the next few weeks.
