Josie Maran: Model Blogs "How I Gave Birth In My Backyard" [Photos]

Josie Maran, best-known as the face of Maybelline for several years, gave birth to her second child on July 1 in the backyard of her Pennsylvania farmhouse.

The cause of her second child Indi Joon Maran Alborzi's birth: spicy food. 

Maran, 34, had contractions for about a week and was tired of dealing with them in Pennsylvania's humidity. According to her people.com blog, she asked her Twitter followers for tips on how-to make the baby come out. 

One of the moms recommended she try eating something spicy, so Maran took the tweeter's advice. She forced her husband and daughter to dine at a Mexican restaurant. 

The next morning, her water broke. The model sat in a blow-up kiddie pool in her backyard surrounded by her midwives, family and friends. Her husband sat in the pool with her and told her she was "powerful, capable and beautiful," she wrote in her people.com blog.

Her older daughter, Rumi Joon, gave her lots of cookies and kisses to make the four-hour delivery easier.  

Maran asserts that "childbirth isn't scary; it's a natural and powerful wonder," but she acknowledged her birthing choice is not for everyone.

"I love being outside, so the choice to give birth in the great outdoors was a natural one for me."

However, Maran encouraged women to explore all of their options and to realize there is no right way to give birth. 

Although her children's births were different, they both took place at home and in nature.

Josie Maran's daughter, Rumi and Indi, share the middle name

Maran's husband Ali Alborzi caught the newborn in the water. The couple chose the name "Indi" because it means "gift," and it "resonated with us because she is already such a blessing to our lives." Rumi and Indi both share the middle name "Joon," which Maran explained is a Farsi term of endearment for "my dear" or "my beloved." "It ties our daughters to their Persian heritage, and to each other," she explained. 

Toward the end of her post, Maran wrote: "Being a mother of two daughters is the most rewarding experience of my life. It's definitely double the work of having one, but my love for my daughters has also doubled, if not quadrupled!"
