True Detective may have been just another hit for HBO, but the popular crime drama turned Matthew McConaughey into one of the most-searched names in 2014.

Fans Speculate As To Who Rick Springfield Will Play On 'True Detective' For Season 2

On Tuesday Access Hollywood released a list of the most-searched names and shows around the world. McConaughey, whose performance as Rust Cohle on True Detective put him on the map, came in at no. 8 for Top Trending People Searched On Google. This put him seven spaces below The Hunger Games' Jennifer Lawrence and two below his Dallas Buyers Club costar Jared Leto.

As for Top Trending TV Shows, True Detective came in at no. 3. With HBO's Game Of Thrones at number one, True Detective beat out the hugely popular American Horror Story (FX) and House Of Cards (Netflix).

'True Detective' Is Turning Into A 'True Blood' Reunion

The crime drama also beat out AMC's Breaking Bad, which didn't even make the cut. This is quite a feat, especially given that Breaking Bad dominated at the Emmy Awards in 2014, stealing the show and upsetting many fans who'd expected McConaughey to win for Best Lead Actor In A Drama.

True Detective's second season is already in production with a cast led by Vince Vaughn (career criminal Frank Semyon), Collin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro), Rachel McAdams (Detective Ani Bezzerides), and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh). Creator Nice Pizzolatto has penned all the episodes, which will follow the murder of a city manager in California.

True Detective returns on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
