Joseph Gordon-Levitt was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Aug. 14 and had an opportunity to touch base on the Batman franchise he is now involved in and any future projects inspired by the caped crusader. Unfortunately for diehard fans, the actor, who played John Blake in "Dark Knight Rises," decided to stay relatively mum on any plans for a future Batman film.

When Kimmel went on to ask the 31-year-old if the ending of the "Dark Knight Rises" would lead to him taking over the franchise as the future Robin, the actor responded in character with the following:

"I'm John Blake, Gotham City police department," he jokingly insisted.

The comedian host had no qualms about prying further, as he attempted once again to extract the highly anticipated answer many are hopeful for:

"But we know there's a bird flying around in your name," said Kimmel

Contrary to the millions of fans, Gordon-Levitt admitted that he felt "Dark Knight Rises" ended appropriately and should indeed be the last Christopher Nolan-directed film in the installment.

"I don't get to decide those things. That's the honest truth, man. You think I get to make those decisions? I don't think it's necessarily a setup [for a sequel]," Gordon-Levitt explained.

"I think it's a great ending for that trilogy. Even if you go back to 'Batman Begins,' he's talking about how Batman is more than a man. It's a symbol. A hero can be anybody, and we all have heroes inside of us.That's a theme that runs throughout the trilogy," he added.

To date, "Dark Knight Rises" has currently raked in nearly $395 million domestically. The PG-13 masterpiece continues to succeed despite the horrific Colorado shooting tragedy that occurred on July 20 during a movie theatre showing of the film.

Although no plans have been made as of yet for a sequel, there has been some chatter amongst the Warner Bros. studio for a potential franchise reboot.
