Now that production has begun fore the second season HBO's True Detective, some fans are still mourning some let-downs in the casting department.

While Collin Farrell and Vince Vaughn are indeed some unique big-name choices, some viewers are still a bit disappointed that some early names that were thrown around never became a reality.

Recently True Detective Rumors went through a list of actors that were never cast, but should be contenders if the series goes for a third season.

Fans Speculate As To Who Rick Springfield Will Play On 'True Detective' 

Their top pick was actress Gillian Anderson, who this year will already have her hands full with season 2 of The Fall and season 3 of NBC's Hannibal. Also committed to Hannibal this year is actor Michael Pitt, who impressed fans with his haunting portrayal of the doomed Jimmy on HBO's Boardwalk Empire. While the actor was not deemed to be a unique choice, fans thought he could have been a solid contender to go from Boardwalk Empire to the contemporary crime drama.

There appeared to be a lot of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo favorites, with Naomi Rapace from the original film making the list, along the with American adaptation's Rooney Mara and Stellan Skarsgard.

The second season of True Detective will star Farrell, Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch. The story will surround the events which follow the murder of a city manager in California.

True Detective returns on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
