The creator of BET's hit series Being Mary Jane, Mara Brock Akil spoke with EURWeb recently and spilled secrets of what viewers can expect for the highly anticipated sophomore season.

"A lot of rebuilding. Mary Jane walked away from David. And it's fun to make this sort of empowering move. What's next? We're literally picking up from that moment and seeing how she puts her life back in order without David."

But that certainly is not the end of Mary Jane's love life.

"While you're trying to get through one situation, you have suitors on the other side."

Still, Akil said her mission is to debunk the speculation that single women are lonely.

"There's options out there. The question is, is the right one out there?"

Akil added that her family will go through similar tests and "put through the fire."

Mary Jane will not only face issues with David, but her friendship with her best friend and boss Kara will be tried this season as Mary Jane continues to continue the journey of what she really wants. Considering Mary Jane works as an iconic talk show host, the season will cover issues that have plagued the headlines involving police brutality and racism.

Being Mary Jane returns to BET February 3 at 10/9c.
