Guardians of the Galaxy raked it in at the box office, and Paramount apparently wants to see a slice of that action for Star Trek 3.

Robert Orci, the mind behind the Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness scripts, left the Trek 3 directors chair for undisclosed reasons, and Badass Digest believes it could be because Paramount wants to skew the film in the direction of Guardians (see video below).

"They want the third film to be huge, and they want it to be huge overseas especially," Badass Digest wrote. "They look at Rocket and Groot and then they look at Keenser [who was Spock's climbing-adept buddy] and they wonder why he doesn't have more of a role."

While it is unknown if Paramount is looking for wit and humor, quirky non-human sidekicks a la Rocket and Groot, or the brightly bedecked space of James Gunn's production, Paramount is certainly looking at Guardians' numbers. After only 20 weeks, the Marvel endeavor has managed to bring in $332,552,345 domestic and $439,600,000 foreign, according to Box Office Mojo, numbers that make Into Darkness ($467,381,584 worldwide/17 weeks) and Star Trek ($385,680,446 worldwide/21 weeks) look like peanuts.

As Star Trek 3 searches for a new director, fans will have to wait to see what direction Orci's third script will eventually take.
