Two weeks ago, VH1 and Mona Scott Young debuted its' newest reality series, "Sorority Sisters." In short, the show follows the lives of several selected members of four African American sororities as they "pledge for life and are expected to continue with community work long after graduation." But, unfortunately, members of the sororities who are not on the show have a major problem with the ones that are because the cast is made for reality television- which means fights, drama and a lack of reverence for their beloved organizations.

In fact, weeks before the show premiered, there was an online petition circling the net. Members of various sororities (Delta Sigma Theta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Zeta Phi Beta & more) and fraternities gathered over 40,000 signatures by the time the show started, but the network did not budge.

In the weeks following the premiere, several advertisers pulled their brands from the show. The NBA, Carmex, Honda, JBL Audio and more took to Twitter to confirm that they would no longer support the show because of the immense disapproval from a major portion of its' consumer base.

. But, even with all of the effort from Greek members and those who support their position, VH1 has confirmed that they will still be airing the show. A new episode will air on Jan. 5th, after the holiday hiatus. They recently confirmed to Buzzfeed, "We are definitely hearing the conversation around Sorority Sisters and are taking the concerns of our viewers into account. Currently there are no changes planned for the series. The show seems to be connecting with an audience." On Twitter, protesters of the show are still putting pressure on businesses like Netflix to stop running the ads, but until the ratings drop- which are still very strong- VH1 will most likely keep airing the episodes.
