Carrie Underwood is all about making some new traditions for the holiday season, and the mother-to-be wants to make sure that is something her little boy will get next year.

Christmas Goes To The Dogs With Carrie Underwood This Year

"We're going to have to make some family traditions," noted the Something In The Water singer when she sat down to discuss the holiday season with CMT on Wednesday. "My family never really stuck to the same things. We never really had the traditions that we always did."

As they celebrated their last Christmas alone on Thursday, Underwood and her husband began to look towards the future.

"That's something that has definitely been on both of our minds," she explained. "We are just crazy. Our lives are weird, you know? They're awesome, and we're so blessed, but we're coming and going and all that stuff, so we're definitely going to have to reevaluate everything and just make time, make room and make that a priority."

Underwood is married to Mike Fisher, who plays in the NHL for the Nashville Predators.

"Right now, my schedule and my husband's hockey schedule kind of dictate our holidays," said the country star. "I told him recently, 'You know, I'm really tired of skipping holidays. So from this moment on, I think it's just so important no matter where we are or what we're doing, we have to make it special.' And, I think, that's going to be our tradition."

The singer may not have all the specific's of her son's first Christmas down yet, but she seems to be on the right track.

"I hope that my kids later in life," said Underwood, "Are going to be like, 'Mom always tried to make that special even if we were a crazy someplace or dad was off playing hockey or something like that. She made it special.'"

Underwood and Fisher announced that they are expecting their first child together back in September. Their little boy is due this spring.
