"The Hunger Games" DVD and Blu-ray was released on Saturday, Aug. 18, across the country and already reports are suggesting that it may turn out to be one of the fastest selling DVDs to hit shelves in years.

"The Hunger Games" was this year's second most talked about and successful box office movie, only behind "The Avengers," according to Yahoo!

Comicbook.com reported on Aug. 19 that one Wal-Mart clerk told them, "It's the fastest I've ever seen one of our DVDs sell" and that many retailers checked on Sunday morning were already sold out of the DVD copies.

Many stores, including Wal-Mart, had midnight release parties on Friday night, with long lines of fans just waiting to get their hands on the new DVD. Those who bought copies at Wal-Mart's midnight premiere also received a pack of collectible "The Hunger Games" trading cards, some with signed autographs from cast members such as Liam Hemsworth and Jennifer Lawrence, according to Examiner.com.

The "Hunger Games" Facebook page, which had over seven million "likes" at the time of print, posted on Aug. 18, "Thank you to all our fans! 'The Hunger Games' 7 million and counting' "

The page also posted on Friday that some of the film's cast members would attend release parties held around the country.

"The Hunger Games" is also available on iTunes.

Josh Hutcherson, who played Peeta Mellark in the movie, revealed in an interview some extras included in the new DVD.

"The release actually contains some of our own video diaries and bonus content on the filming process," the actor explained. "[It's] a close and personal look into what it was like shooting the movie, from beginning to end. Fans will enjoy it."

The highly-anticipated film was an adaptation of the best-selling series by Suzanne Collins. The second film, "Catching Fire," is set to start its shooting in the fall.
