One of the actors from Downton Abbey dished on why the series can be resonating as well as what's next for his character.

Thomas Will have A 'Harrowing Storyline' On 'Downton Abbey'

On Saturday, The Star posted an interview with Allen Leech who plays Tom Branson on the series. He mentioned that the show has become a massive hit over the years and it's affected him in several ways.

"I'll be sitting in a bar with friends, and someone comes over and asks to take a picture, but it's really lovely," the actor shared. "And it really depends on where you are. In North America they're very enthusiastic, but in the U.K. they'll cross the street just to tell you they don't watch your show."

Everyone Will Have 'Intense Storylines' When 'Downton Abbey' Returns

Leech then said that when it comes to revealing details on what's going to happen in future episodes, it can come with a consequence.

"I keep getting in trouble with the spoilers because I forget that there are huge bunches of people who haven't seen it," he said. "We as a cast talk about it and can't figure out why it can't air simultaneously. But they must have their reasons."

Leech managed to get some details out anyway by saying that his character will be in a stronger position in the new season.

"He is very much finding his feet," the actor said about Tom. "He is still an outsider and always on the back foot in relation to the rest of the family. In Season 5 he finds his niche. He takes a very strong position with (Lady) Mary in making the place work. And he sees his worth as a person outside of that world."

Downton Abbey Season 5 will air in the United States on Sunday, January 4 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.
