The Red Dragon character will make his debut once Dr. Lecter returns to the States, and series' writer Helen Shang is busy penning Dolarhyde's schemes.

"It's almost 3 AM, so this is a great time to be writing some Francis Dolarhyde scenes," Shang teased early Sunday morning.

It is currently unknown who will play Dolarhyde, but the murderer will have a significant role when Hannibal returns to NBC this spring. Just as series creator Bryan Fuller delved further into the story of Mason Verger, Dolarhyde's role will be expanded for the NBC drama.

"That's what [series creator] Bryan [Fuller] does best: He finds characters that might not be that explicit in the books or the films and then he enlarges that," explained actor Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), according to Yahoo! TV. "He's already done that, to a degree with Mason Verger and his sister. We saw the aftermath in the film, but now we've already seen who is Mason and we saw his transition, which I find super interesting. I'm sure he's going to do that with other characters."
