It was recently revealed that Criminal Minds will be getting a new spinoff, the premise for which will be teased in an upcoming episode of season 10. From what has been revealed about the theme of the series, it seems it's also going to deal with American security issues in foreign territory.

Spencer Reid And JJ Get Arrested In Season 10?

Entertainment Weekly reported that the project will be about a "division of the FBI that helps American citizens who find themselves in trouble abroad." The episode which will give fans a taste of the spinoff will air later in season 10 of Criminal Minds. But the new show is set to have a new star cast. It seems like this would suggest that show could bear some similarities with Homeland, and would also capture soem aspect of terrorism abroad.

The spin-off pilot will be shot in February next year. Criminal Minds's Erica Messer will be helming this project as well, and Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper will be serving as executive producers.

JJ's Memory Of Her Abduction To Come Out In "Unexpected Ways"

This season's latest episode aired on earlier this month, and the show is now on a brief hiatus for the christmas holidays but is set to return in January.

In the episode Ben Savage will be guest starring as a young Gideon.

TVGuide reported that Savage will be portraying a younger version of the character which Mandy Patinkin orginally played in episode 13. This will be part of a flashback featuring David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and Gideon, rewinding to their earlier days. Robert Dunne will be playing the younger part for Rossi. The episode has been co-written by executive producer Erica Messer and cast member Kristen Vangsness. Messer spoke to TVGuide about what can be expected from the episode, which is a "love letter to fans."

"I've wanted to go back to how the BAU all started and now being in Season 10, it feels like it's time," Messer said. "I'm really excited about it to show our heroes from the beginning in the bomb shelter in Quantico. [Rossi's] memory drives us into the flashback, but it's also very reflective for the whole cast. It's not a typical episode."

It was also recently revealed that Mantegna will be directing episode 12 of the CBS show.
