Prince William and Princess Kate are forging their own path as they make some changes to royal protocol.

Princess Kate 'Apologizes' To 8-Year-Old

For the first time ever Kate's parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, spent a full Christmas with their grandson, one-year-old Prince George. They were also invited to Christmas with Queen Elizabeth, which is something that has never happened before. They attended church on Dec. 25 and then returned to Sandringham estate for some quality time with the royal family.

"This request would have come from William," Majesty Magazine's Ingrid Seward told People on Tuesday. "William is making his own rules. He's not sticking to tradition but the Queen has to move with the times and she's good like that."

Princess Kate Stays Behind As Husband Takes Her Family Hunting

Prince William and Princess Kate spent Christmas at Amner Hall this year and they are looking to make it their primary residence in 2015.

"She [Kate] would have done a very traditional Christmas and the table would have looked beautiful," noted Seward. "I'm sure they had party games as there were enough of them and they are a fun group."

As for future Christmas gatherings, the couple will likely remain in Norfolk. "They will definitely be at Amner Hall every Christmas now," insisted Seward. "It's only two miles from the main house so it suits everyone."

Princess Kate is currently pregnant with her second child, which means little George is in for a sibling soon. The princess is expected to give birth this April.
