"I believe that the other contestants are better than Miss China. The judges should have been wise in choosing the winner. That's what judges are for...impartial, free from prejudice, and has the ability to choose the winner not being effected by the screaming crowd. I wonder if there is still any credibility left on this kind of beauty contest. So sad :(" a commenter, SM SL, wrote according to Clarion Ledger.
One Miss World viewer even claimed that the competition was rigged and fixed so that Miss China 2012 would take home the crown.
"MWO you sold Miss World for the Chinese. They poured MILLIONS into the contest, so it is not very surpris[ing] that they won," the commenter expressed, according to Examiner.
Ordos is a very wealthy city due to it's natural resources.
Another commenter confessed that they were "not surprised at all" to see Miss China win since the audience in the city were constantly screaming and applauding for Yu throughout the show.
Yu, Miss China 2012, is only the second Miss China to receive the honor of Miss World. However, various Chinese cities including Sanya, have hosted the event previously.
Miss China 2012 is a 23-year old music student who aspires to become a music teacher. She explained during the pageant that she desires to be crowned as Miss World to be a help to those in need just as she was helped in her upbringing.
"When I was young I felt very lucky because so many people helped me, and I hope in the future I can help more children to feel lucky," said Yu, according to AFP.
Sophie Moulds of Wales was selected as the first runner up and Jessica Kahawaty of Australia finished as the second runner-up.
