While some may be uncomfortable with the idea of directing their spouse, Angelina Jolie spoke fondly about her experience working with husband Brad Pitt.

During an interview with Today anchor Al Rocker, Jolie said directing Pitt in their upcoming film By the Sea was "great" and an opportunity to try new things as an artist.

"As a director you want to help your actor, as a wife you really want to help your husband. You want everything to be right for them," she said. "But there's something we found, which is if you work with the person you love and trust most in this world, it's pretty great because you really try things with each other and you trust and, as artists, you get very bold because you are together."

Set in France during the mid-1970s, the film follows Jolie's character Vanessa, a former dancer, and her husband Roland (Pitt), who are growing apart. Things quickly begin to unravel for them as they travel in a small town.

The romantic drama marks the first time the couple will star together since 2005's Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Pitt previously explained why the couple hadn't worked together since the action film.

"We're not ones to repeat ourselves, but we'd like to, because right now, we're hop scotching with films so one can be with the kids and one's free to work. And why aren't we doing them together? Why aren't we doing everything together?" Pitt told the Associated Press in 2011.

By the Sea is set for release in 2015.
