The cast of ABC's Good Morning America talked about Ann Curry leaving the "Today" show and winning the ratings war in an interview with CNN's Piers Morgan.

GMA's co-host Robin Roberts told Morgan that the cast appreciates Curry and has great respect for her.

"Let me tell you. The morning that Ann said goodbye, we were watching and we, on our program -which you don't see very often-, we spent the last couple of minutes talking about Ann Curry on GMA and appreciating her and such great respect," Robert told Morgan on Friday.

But the comments of GMA's Lara Spencer were what appeared to throw a punch at the tensions on the "Today" show since Curry departed.

Host Lara Spencer said what has made the difference between the top competitive morning shows is that the cast of GMA has "genuine" love and respect for each other.

"I really think is what we've sort of touched on our show. We are five people who genuinely love each other," said Lara Spencer . "... we respect each other immensely i think respect is a huge part. We want to be together, is not a lie."

Co-anchor George Stephanopoulos also talked about Curry leaving the "Today" show with some humor.

"I just wanted to know at first, there's a very important lesson this is teaching us all right here. We've got to stay No. 1. Look what happens when you're not!" he said.

Weather anchor Sam Champion said the GMA cast are friends with people on "Today" and he preferred not to talk about them. But he addressed the ratings.

"For a long time I thought we were doing the No. 1 morning show I think it just took a little time for the audience to start sampling it and notice that what we were doing was like an amazing show that was fun to watch and had news and information and is just jam packed and it never stops, for two hours. SO once you have chance to sample it, why would you not chose the show?"

Robin Roberts was more sensitive about Curry's departure.

"We don't take joy at what's happening in other places. We really stay focused," Roberts said.

The "Today" show has faced backlash after firing Curry and after reports that Matt Lauer was behind that decision. Insiders have said that on the days leading to Curry's departure there was an obvious tension between Curry and Lauer.
