Throughout the summer, many have been buzzing on just who they feel would make the perfect Christian Grey character in the movie version of E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey."

However, based on internet chatter, the fans now have their preferences down to three candidates, according to Policymic: "True Blood" actor Alexander Skarsgard, "Gangster Squad'' star Ryan Gosling and "Man of Steel" hero Henry Cavill.

Known for his role as an ancient-aged vampire in HBO's "True Blood," Skarsgard is considered the third strongest contender for the sexually sadistic role of Grey. Although he is not quite as known to the mainstream audience as perhaps his opponents, playing the character could work to his advantage and add more value to the rest of the cast. Interesting enough, the 36-year-old has even done commercial work seemingly similar in tone to the respective "Fifty Shades" character.

"Man of Steel" star actor Cavill is said to be the second favorite for the role of Grey. With his natural looks, fans see him as a near-replica to the racy read's fictional character. Much like Skarsgard, the 29-year-old also has done Grey-esque commercial work and is not notable enough of a big screen name to outshine the rest of the cast.

"Gangster Squad" lead actor Gosling is considered the number one favored candidate for the part of Grey amongst fans. Having played in a wide array of roles throughout the years, the 31-year-old most certainly has the largest fan base out of the other popular choices.  However, there is some concern that he may be too nice of a guy to play the part of an S&M-crazed billionaire.

Up until this point, E.L. James and the producers attached to the future film version of the book have remained tight-lipped on the casting process.  Only time will tell who ends up with the highly-anticipated role of Grey and also who will play his love interest, Anastasia Steele.
