They are rarely spotted in public together, but Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling decided to break tradition by enjoying a date night in Los Angeles over the weekend.

The new parents were spotted out together for the first time since welcoming their daughter, Esmeralda Amada, in September, as they attended Don Rickles' sold-out comedy show in Beverly Hills Saturday, Jan. 17.

The couple did attempt to still be seen separately at the event, entering and leaving the building separately, though Us Weekly did manage to get a photo of the pair driving away together.

It was the couples' first public appearance since rumors surfaced in December that they were also on the verge of a split.

"They're barely talking. Eva has pushed him away," sources said at the time of the pair, who were rumored to be struggling because Mendes was reportedly reluctant to go out at all or head to Georgia where Gosling was filming at the time-something that allegedly caused the actor to become fed up.

"...instead of coming home every night to them, he's jetting back and forth just so he can see his daughter. The last time Ryan was in LA he told her that she and Esmeralda needed to get outside for some fresh air, but she just wouldn't listen," the source added.

However reports soon countered the claims, with the couple allegedly shrugging the rumors off, as sources explained that Gosling orchestrated the lack of his girlfriend and daughter visiting him on the set of his movie to ensure that the baby had privacy.

"Ryan and Eva are super-super-private. The last thing they'd do is bring a baby, who's barely 3 months old, to a film set teeming with paparazzi," the source explained. "Ryan specifically wanted it like this-with paps following him in Atlanta, they're mostly leaving Eva and the baby alone."
