President Paul Lee spoke with HuffPost Canada during the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour Wednesday, and revealed that while the future of the hit series is unknown, he believes it deserves a chance to come back.

He confirmed that Rookie Blue will indeed have a sixth season and has already finished taping it. But he added that he is looking forward to several seasons afterward.

"I'm hoping ...that we come back and we continue this for a long time to come. That's not a pick-up. We'd like it to last a long time, that's what I'm saying. We have not constructed this to finish, let's put it that way."

Lee reminded fans and viewers that Rookie Blue has come a long way from being the underdog for the big four network. He has high expectations that it will stick around much longer than the upcoming season.

"This is the show that nobody thought would work ... it didn't have much marketing, I don't ever remember bringing it (to TCA). But it's got a completely passionate audience and is completely on-brand for ABC. It looks fabulous, nobody knows where it was made, the acting is great ... so we want it to last a very, very long time."

Rookie Blue is expected to come back to ABC this spring. Be sure to keep up with Enstars on updates and spoilers.
