Wednesday night is the finale of FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show, but it won't be the only goodbye as star Jessica Lange is set to leave the series.

Will 'American Horror Story' Season 5 Be Set In the Present Day Like 'Coven'?

Lange has been American Horror Story's signature star since the beginning and has essentially had the lead role in three different seasons, but now she is about to take her final bow. With the finale of Freak Show ahead, Lange will apparently be making her final appearance on the show, finishing up her role as Hollywood bound freak show owner Elsa Mars.

Each of the previous three seasons have ended rather negatively for Lange's characters, so will she finally get a happy ending this season? Constance was stuck with raising the antichrist at the end of season 1, Sister Jude wound up losing her mind at the end of Asylum and Fiona was trapped in hell at the end of Coven. Will Elsa have a different fate?

It could go any which way for Elsa, who will apparently arrive in Hollywood in the finale. While we know from Pepper's (Naomi Grossman) episode that she makes it on to television and "rules" Friday nights, it doesn't necessarily mean she's happy.

All of Lange's characters have had a certain obsession with fame so it would be appropriate for her final character to reach that goal. However, it is American Horror Story and the show many want to give her a fitting, horrifying ending.

Either way, Lange has left an indelible mark on American Horror Story and she would likely be welcomed back with open arms if she decided to change her mind about leaving for good.

American Horror Story: Freak Show ends Wednesday night at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
