Actor and martial artist Darren Shahlavi died at the age of 42, prior to the release of his latest film, Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Pound Of Flesh.

Shahlavi, who also appeared on Mortal Kombat: Legacy, was found dead in his Los Angeles home on Jan. 14 from a suspected overdose on prescription pills, according to news reports. The Los Angeles Country Coroner will determine the exact cause with toxicology tests.

Arrow actor Stephen Amell shared some kinds words about Shahlavi, who appeared on the show’s first episode in 2012.

“RIP Darren Shahlavi. 1st guy I ever fought on Arrow. He was a great dude & a patient, thoughtful partner. Fight looked good because of him,” he tweeted.

Simon Barry, the creator of the Continuum series, also praised the late actor who played on the show in 2013.

“Tragic. Darren was a true gentleman and multi talented. He will be missed by his #Continuum family,” he tweeted.

Actress Gina Carano wrote: “You were in a league of your own and danced to your own beat. Such a precious thing to see. Rest in peace my friend.. Darren @Shahlavi.”

Screenwriter producer Ben Trebilcook tweeted: “Sad to learn of the passing of my talented friend, Darren Shahlavi. Martial artist actor, nice guy.”

Model and actress Sara Malakul shared an Instagram photo of Shahlavi along with a lengthy caption.

“I am so sad to hear of his passing. I just worked with him on Kickboxer. He was kind, uber talented and one of the most ambitious people I have ever met,” she wrote.

She added: “Live every moment to the fullest & don't sweat the small stuff, we are only here for a short time, make the most of it- Darren you certainly did and you were an inspiration to all #legend.”
