FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show is over and while fans may be mixed on the finale, they are pretty united on already missing star Jessica Lange.

'American Horror Story' Star Finn Wittrock Talks 'Life-Changer' Of Experience & If He's Returning For Season 5

The Freak Show finale Wednesday night featured a very appropriate send-off to Lange and her apparent final character, Elsa Mars. Standing on stage in the freak show after-life, she gazed upon an adoring crowd, feeling like a true star. Lange certainly brought that star magnetism to all of her roles on American Horror Story, and with the actress reportedly leaving the series, she is leaving quite a mark on the show.

American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy tweeted out his gratitude to Lange after Wednesday night's Freak Show finale with a very simple message:

Will 'American Horror Story' Season 5 Be Set In the Present Day Like 'Coven'?

"Thank you Jessica...for everything. Always."

The show's devoted fans are not ready to say goodbye to the legendary actress, with many tweeting their feelings on the matter.

Clearly Lange has left a huge impact on the show and its viewers. Originally cast as a supporting player, she quickly became a fan favorite as nosy neighbor Constance Langdon on the first season. She was then bumped up to a leading role for Asylum as Sister Jude, a strict but vulnerable nun. Then for Coven she got to play a true diva in the form of Fiona Goode, the most Supreme of witches.

For her final role, she played Elsa Mars, a freak show owner who just wanted to be a star. In the final moments of the Freak Show finale, she got to be one, surrounded by the friends who loved and supported her.

It remains to be seen if Lange will change her mind and come back for season 5 of American Horror Story, but if not, she will certainly be a tough act to follow.

American Horror Story is expected to return for season 5 in the fall.
