Kellie Pickler has shaved her head in support of her best friend who is suffering from breast cancer. The country music star and TV personality has chopped off her long blond hair to support best friend Summer Holt Miller by who was diagnosed with the cancer in June. She recently underwent a double mastectomy and is due to start chemotherapy sessions in one week.

The 26-year-old music star appeared in a video clip on "Good Morning America" earlier today.

"Cancer does not discriminate," said Pickler.

Her friend continued: "If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it."

Miller reportedly detected the tumor in her breast due to her diligence in checking her breasts often and asking her doctor for a mammogram. Her family has a history of breast cancer, which made her more cautious than ever when it comes to examining her breasts. Luckily, the tumor was spotted early and she has been cancer-free since August.
Regarding her buzz cut, Pickler tweeted: "one of the most incredible days of my life."

Pickler appeared in season 5 of American Idol. She made it through to the semi-finals, eventuall reaching the Top 12. She has been compared to Jessica Simpson for her southern style.

Her first single debuted in 2006, where her music video for "Red High Heels" received a nomination for the CMT Video Awards for "Breakthrough Video of the Year." She was subsequently nominated for "Top New Female Vocalist" for the 42nd Academy of Country Music Awards.
