The image was posted on November 26 on the CM_Set Report Twitter page for the series. On November 10, a report revealed that Ben Savage (Boy Meets World) will be playing a young Gideon in an upcoming episode of Criminal Minds.

TVGuide reported that Savage will be portraying a younger version of the character which Mandy Patinkin orginally played in episode 13. This will be part of a flashback featuring David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and Gideon, rewinding to their earlier days. Robert Dunne will be playing the younger part for Rossi. The episode has been co-written by executive producer Erica Messer and cast member Vangsness. Messer spoke to TVGuide about what can be expected from the episode, which is a "love letter to fans."

"I've wanted to go back to how the BAU all started and now being in Season 10, it feels like it's time," Messer said. "I'm really excited about it to show our heroes from the beginning in the bomb shelter in Quantico. [Rossi's] memory drives us into the flashback, but it's also very reflective for the whole cast. It's not a typical episode."
