Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have become officially inseparable.

West was scheduled to appear at MTV's Video Music Awards tonight in Los Angeles, but the rapper has canceled at the last minute because his reality star girlfriend is unable to attend, The Daily Mail reports.

Kardashian had a previous engagement in New York City on the same night as the VMAs. She will appear tonight at Lord & Taylor to celebrate the launch of her new True Religion perfume as part of the city-wide Fashion's Night Out celebration.

"Kim's in New York for her fragrance launch and Kanye didn't want to go to the VMAs if she couldn't be there," a source told The Daily Mail.

West's absence will take a certain air of unpredictability out of the show. The rapper created one of the most memorable VMA moments in 2009 when he jumped on stage and interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for Best Female Video.

"'Yo Taylor. I'm really happy for you, I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time," West said on stage.

The incident was seen by millions around the world, and it became an Internet meme and prompted President Barack Obama to call West a "jackass."

Although Kimye won't be at the ceremony in person, the couple did get a change to be part of the VMA festivities by appearing in a promo for the awards show alongside host Kevin Hart.
