MTV VMA 2012: NICKI MINAJ Nabs Best Female Video!

Nicki Minaj has taken home the 2012 MTV VMA Best Female Video Awar after facing stiff competition in the category from the likes of Katy Perry and Rihanna.

The respective award comes with its very own status-quo, as the VMA's have been a generational pop-cultural award show that has gathered some of the most elite bands and artists.  For several years, the program has been noteworthy for its live controversial moments and has rapidly built popularity because of them.  However, the awards given out are indeed the cream of the crop, in terms of accomplishment.

The annual VMA ceremony is held in the middle of September and broadcasted live on MTV.  The show had been originally conceived as an alternate program for the Grammy Awards, but by the year 2001, the VMA had become a prestigious award given to the best performers of the year.

At the very first MTV Video Music Awards in 1984, icon Madonna had performed "Like A Virgin" while sorting a bustier/wedding gown, which also included her trademark "Boy Toy" belt.  During the respective performance, she rolled around on stage and revealed a garter and lacy stockings.  Cyndi Lauper had spoken in gibberish to elaborate on the VMA rules just before winning the Best Female video for "Girls Just Want to Have Fun."

Since its opening, the event has garnered attention on an increasingly large scale.  Nicknamed the "Oscars for youth," the show has drawn millions of youngsters ranging from teenagers to 20-somethings each and every year. 

On Sept. 2, singing sensation Taylor Swift had spoken about the pre-stage butterflies that usually accompany a performer when they set foot on the grand musical stage, according to MTV. 

"The thing about the VMAs is, the people that help put together the performances are honestly some of the best people you have ever worked with and they put together these huge, vast, massively entertaining performances. You have to make sure that you are ready to go onstage and face the entire world of music fans that are watching that show," she said.
