While Gabrielle Union's lead character on Being Mary Jane got lots of backlash for dating a married man, Andre (played by Omari Hardwick) Union opened up about the relationship and said he is actually the one at fault.

Union spoke with Yahoo! Style earlier this week and said that while Mary Jane's morale might have been a little off, Andre is not completely innocent.

"I think initially he is a home wrecker. He was dishonest. He started a relationship under false pretenses [by not telling her he was married], but I think she became a bit morally bankrupt on the way. That narrative is important to tell, which is why I was all for the story line. It shows what happens and all of the people who are affected in an affair. I look at it as a morality tale."

She also opened up about Mary Jane being able to relate to her viewers. She said her decision to sport "Uggs and the sweatpants at home" let the people watching know it's okay to be comfortable.

It's no secret that Being Mary Jane is a huge success. But it's also clear that it faces lots of comparisons to ABC's Scandal, with lead actress Kerry Washington. Union admitted she is annoyed at people putting the two shows side by side.

"What bugs me is that they're making the comparison because they're both shows that star black women. It's such apples and oranges. It's like comparing True Detective and Law & Order - you would never do that."

She added that the comparisons would most likely stop happening if more diverse cultures were represented on television.
