Rebekah and Marcel's relationship will be more complicated than ever when they reunite on The Originals this season.

Hayley Turning On Klaus As 'The Originals' Continues?

During the midseason finale Rebekah (Claire Holt) was transferred into a mortal witch body (Maisie Richardson-Sellers). Though she is trapped for now, the new Rebekah will eventually break free and reunite with her family. When she does, however, there will be some new territory to explore, particularly for her and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis).

"That's something Maisie and I are still figuring out," admitted Davis to The Hollywood Reporter on Monday. "It'll be a different dynamic."

Freya An 'Ally' For Marcel & Klaus On 'The Originals'?

The fact that "it's not Rebekah in Rebekah's body" will be a challenge for the pair, especially if they wish to pursue anything romantic. "When you're in somebody else's body, and somebody else was already occupying that body, too, it'll always be between them," insisted Davis.

At this time fans don't know much about the witch Rebekah has inhabited, though this could change if the original ever returns to her immortal body. Until then, it likely be a major learning curve.

"It's going to be really tough for them to jump right back into the romance and try to resolve things when there's a bigger issue," warned Davis, who didn't say how or when the two will reunite this season.

Based on their track record over the last few hundred years, facing yet another obstacle won't be easy.

The Originals continues on The CW with its second season Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
