The second season of Penny Dreadful is fast approaching a premiere this year.

Why Josh Hartnett Might Be Preparing For A Third Season Of 'Penny Dreadful'

Showtime released the first official behind-the-scenes look (featured below) at the new episodes on Wednesday, offering a sneak peek at the Victorian supernatural drama's upcoming season.

One clip showed Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) and Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) being knocked over in a carriage, which suggests their friendship could be a deadly one this season. Ethan proved his loyalty when he refused to kill a possessed Vanessa during season 1, though it's uncertain how far either character will be forced to go as the series continues.

Then there is Ethan's werewolf problem, which is far from under control. Responsible for murders across London, he might just have to come to terms with his hidden identity this season.

"Our cast has been working very closely with our stunt coordinators," insisted producer Christopher King, who has been supervising production in Dublin over the last few months. There look to be twice as many stunts this season as they were during the show's debut, which means a ton of action is headed to the series.

Another behind-the-scenes clip showed actress Helen McCrory, set to revive her role as Evelyn Poole (aka Madame Kali), practicing with a hand gun. Who does Evelyn intend to shoot? Is she intent on protection or murder?

"This season it all changes and it's all very different…" teased dialogue coach Jane Karen. "It's really, really exciting."

Penny Dreadful will return on Showtime for a second season in 2015.
