Once a year, retailers hold special events and sales all on the same night for the sake of the fashion industry, Fashion's Night Out on Sept. 6 was an opportunity for shoppers and retailers to dress up, mingle, enjoy themselves and the fashions around them.

FNO was created "to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry's economy during the recession, and put the fun back in shopping," according to its official site.  American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York have collaborated to make it possible in the United States.

The initiative began in 2009 and every year, the event's get bigger and better. This year, while supermodel Alessandro Ambrosio took pictures with fans at the Victoria's Secret store in Soho, Solange Knowles was DJ for the night at Diane von Furstenberg location on Washington Street. Bloomingdales had heartthrob and "Twilight" star Kellan Lutz and Michael Kors hosted Kate Upton and Nikki Reed in his store.

People used it as an opportunity to bring out the best in their wardrobes and all around New York City retailers threw trunk shoes, have champagne parties and showed customers a good time. Here are some of the highlights from the evening, including noteable celebrity appearances.
