Katy Perry opened up about relationships in her latest interview.

Before taking the stage during the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show, Perry declined to comment on news of her and John Mayer's alleged reconciliation. However, she did give a few thoughts on relationships in general.

"What I will say is that to have any relationship at this level you have to just be protective and figure out how to navigate it," Perry explained to Billboard Magazine on Friday. "There is no handbook."

Perry and Mayer have been linked since 2012, but throughout their relationship, they have been plagued with rumors regarding possible splits and even an engagement. Early last year, after two years of alleged on-and-off dating, Perry and Mayer appeared to call it quits for good. Then, earlier this month, they were spotted together in Beverly Hills, Calif.

After the pair were seen together a handful of times, a source spoke to People magazine, claiming Perry and Mayer were "in love."

"They are in love," an insider told the magazine. "They missed each other."

"They seem very happy about being back together again," a second source added.

While there have been multiple reports regarding the couple's possible reconciliation, Perry is keeping her personal life private -- at least for now.

"In all my relationships, I've learned how I have to be more careful and that it's not up for public consumption," she explained.
