The odds of Downton Abbey coming to an end after the sixth season appear to be growing stronger.

Are Any Guest Stars Going To Appear On 'Downton Abbey' Season 6?

On Wednesday, Mirror reported that the show is supposed to be ending after the sixth year as the cast members look for new work. Series creator Julian Fellowes is reportedly leaving the British drama to work on his new project called The Gilded Age and it appears that he's not the only one looking to move on.

"It's an open secret that Downton is ending this year," a source said. "Some of the actors are keen to let it be known they will be available for work after the summer. Some are interested in the US, where Downton is as popular as it is in the UK."

When some of the actors showed up to the Screen Actors Guild Awards last week, there were agents who were reportedly trying to find work for them.

"Joanne Froggatt, Edith Carmichael and Allen Leech were in Los Angeles for the awards last week and there were several meetings about both TV and film roles," the source said.

While this information creates speculation for what the future of the series is, executive producer Gareth Neame commented on this report saying that nothing is official just yet.

"We plan the show from year to year, and right now I just want the cameras rolling next month," Neame told Variety, posted on Thursday.

Downton Abbey airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.
