After news broke that Patrick Dempsey is divorcing his wife Jillian Fink, Katherine Heigl spoke out on how she feels about the split.

On Saturday, Extra reported that Katherine Heigl is "sad to hear" about her ex co-stars recent issues with his marriage.

Heigl and Dempsey were co-stars on Grey's Anatomy and apparentlyhad a good relationship while they worked on the show together.

"I was really sad to hear that," said Heigl at Universal Studios Hollywood where she was promotion her hit NBC thriller State of Affairs.

Dempsey and Fink announced together that they are ending their 15 years of marriage last week, according to People.

"I knew them both and they are really great people," Heigl said. "I think it's always hard to have to go through something like that so publicly."

E! News seemed to break the news last week, sharing the soon-to-be-ex-couple's statement.

"It is with careful consideration and mutual respect that we have decided to end our marriage," the duo said. "Our primary concern remains the well-being of our children, and we ask with profound gratitude that you respect our family's privacy at this very sensitive time."  

In 2011 in an interview with Good Housekeeping, Dempsey was asked about the best and worst parts of marriage. He said the worst part is "when you're not connecting. Your partner is going out the door when you're coming in, and you don't have a chance to debrief on the day." He said the most important thing in a marriage is "individual time" where you both do your own things once in a while.
