Colombia will approach the game with the advantage of momentum. The team secured a 4-0 victory on Friday over Uruguay, which was previously believed to be one of the most threatening teams in the qualifying round. Colombia will have a good shot at defeating Chile if the energy from the victory against Uruguay carries forward, but Colombia lately hasn't been as strong on the road as at home.
Colombia coach Jose Pekerman was optimistic about his team's chances heading into the matchup with Chile.
"Hopefully, we can continue to play like we did [against Uruguay] every game. If we maintain this level we will close in on the World Cup," Pekerman said.
Chile didn't see action last week as the team sat out of those games, which gives them the advantage of rest and freshness heading into Tuesday's competition. Pekerman acknowledged the circumstances and said his team is prepared.
"The match against Chile will be another type of game," he said. "Chile didn't play and that is a big advantage for them."
