Watch the Americans battle team Jamaica on the soccer field in the qualifying round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The game airs on Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. and can be seen here.

USA lost none of the home games they played during the qualifiers in South Africa in 2010 and finished top in their six-team group to reach the finals.

Midfielder Landon Donovan, from the Los Angeles Galaxy, has made a name for himself on team USA and now he hopes to help his country win big and make it to the Brazil World Cup.

"People closest to me know how hard I have worked for this moment, and this is just unbelievable, I know the people back home are watching, and we're not done yet!" he said. "We embody what Americans are all about. We believe, man."

Fifa.com reported, "the Americans are a difficult side to break down, and dangerous on the break."

In 1998, Jamaica became the first English-speaking side from the Caribbean to make it to the World Finals cup, which took place that year in France, according to the site. However, they failed to reach the final qualifying round in the last two FIFA World Cup preliminary cycles.

The host country of the 2014 games won the World Cup in 2002. The 2010 winners were Spain and Italy won in 2006.

Americans call it soccer, others call it football. Whatever the term is, the FIFA World Cup is hosted this year by Brazil and the sporting tournament is played every four years since it began in 1930, except when it was held off twice because of World War II. The current qualifying phase, also known as the Preliminary Competition, involves a total of 204 teams across six continents competing for 31 available spots in the 2014 World Cup Final Competition. Teams compete in the preliminaries for three years leading up to the final competition.
