Academy Award winning Jared Leto is more than brilliant actor, and it looks like he has something else to add to his resume. Leto recently announced that he is a global ambassador for WWF.

World Wide Fund for Nature is an international non-governmental organization that works on issues regarding the conservation, and restoration of the planet.

On Wednesday, the World Wild Life site reported that the actor recently traveled to South Africa to get first hand knowledge about endangered species and how to save the dying breed from wildlife crime.

"My latest adventure in South Africa was as mind-blowing as always," Leto said. "Being that close to majestic creatures like rhinos and elephants reminds me of the deep connection and important responsibility we have to protect and shepherd these fragile species and their habitats."

The Dallas Buyers Club actor has pledged to do his best to protect these animals from harm and he is encouraging others to get involved as well.

"I'm committed and passionate about doing all I can to help ensure that these endangered animals survive, and will continue to encourage others to get into action as well."

Leto's role as global ambassador is to raise awareness about the critical issues harming the planet. While he may be new to the job, the actor says the he is honored to join the team and he's willing to do his part to make the world a better place.
