Author E.L James can expect her fan base to widen to a much younger demographic.

Justin Bieber started a rumor that he will appear in the film adaptation of James' best-selling erotic novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" during his guest appearance on the British late night talk show "The Jonathan Ross Show." The pop singer sparked the rumor on Saturday, Sept. 15.

"They actually want me to be in the movie," said Bieber with a straight face referring to James' upcoming film.

After the live studio audience went wild, a few seconds later the 18-year-old shook his head at the crowd, laughed and said "Just kidding, just kidding."

According to a report, the live crowd had to be calmed down after Bieber's comment.

The "Boyfriend" singer's joke set a flurry of remarks on Twitter following his appearance.

"YES. @justinbieber, can you please be in Fifty Shades of Grey?!?!" tweeted a follower with the handle "Justin Bieber Army".

"You know what's more mockable than Justin Bieber being offered a role in Fifty Shades of Grey? Having read Fifty Shades of Grey," tweeted another use.

The author of the hugely successful "Fifty Shades Of Grey" novel series revealed the top picks of who she thinks should be cast to play the lead role of Christian Grey. As she attended an event to promote the "Fifty Shades of Grey" album in London, she reportedly admitted that "now every other tweet" is about Matt Bomer, Ian Somerhalder or Ryan Gosling.

She later retracted by admitting, "The thing is that if I say I want 'so-and-so' to do it and then they don't want to... it's just best to keep your mouth shut."
