Elisabeth Moss made a big name for herself playing Peggy Olson on AMC's Mad Men.

Why Don Draper Just Might Live Through The 'Mad Men' Finale

The actress acknowledges that no one knew whether or not the series would be a success back when they first filmed season 1, and yet she didn't hesitate in taking on the role.

"I've always just followed my heart…" explained the actress during an interview with Deadline on Monday. "I liked the script. It was good. There was no reason to go do that, signing up for five years on a network that no one's ever heard of."

Moss took a pretty big leap of faith attaching herself to a show like that for five years. What if it was cancelled? Or worse? If received only adequately the series could have lingered on for five years, with little viewership and even less interest.

Despite the risk, Moss went on to flourish on the ad agency drama, which subsequently turned AMC into a network for serious, compelling programing. Mad Men is believed by many to have changed the face of television, redefining the idea of quality on the small screen. "It turned out okay," admitted the actress humbly in terms of her decision to commit to the program.

As for Mad Men's final season, Moss told the Los Angeles Times on Oct. 17 that she is pleased with the final episodes. "I couldn't be happier with what happens to my character or to the other characters," she declared. "I mean, I couldn't have done it better myself…I think you'll be happy."

Mad Men will return on AMC for the remainder of its seventh and final season on Sunday, April 5 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
