LSU Bomb Threat Causes Campus Evacuation
A bomb threat at Louisiana State University caused the school to evacuate the entire campus Monday.
An anonymous call around 10:30 a.m. threatened the campus with a bomb just four days after similar scares at the University of Texas at Austin and North Dakota State University.
The university sent out a text message to all students around 12:30 p.m. urging everyone to "evacuate as calmly and quickly and possible." LSU's Emergency Operations Center was evacuating students without access to vehicles, according to The Daily Reveille, LSU's campus newspaper.
As of late Monday afternoon, the evacuation was still in effect. The university released a statement saying each building on campus was being searched.
"Campus buildings are currently being searched by LSU personnel with support of law enforcement. Buildings deemed ready to return to normal operations will be determined on a building-by-building basis," the statement read.
The Daily Reveille reported that the mass exodus from campus was slowed by heavy traffic. Because of the ham, some students chose to take the university's evacuation bus, but confusion was abound regarding exactly where the buses were headed.
"In the event of an emergency protocol, they're not allowed to tell us beforehand [where the buses go]. Once we're on the bus we will be notified of where we will be taken; this is because of the precaution of ongoing threats possible at the next location of where the buses are headed," one student said.
One female student told The Reveille that she was in the library when the evacuation warning was sent out and anxiety broke out around campus.
"I don't know if it was real, but it was creepy," she said. "I just felt like I better get out."
