The murder trial for former NFL football star Aaron Hernandez has resumed and detectives involved in the case are presenting new evidence that could possibly prove Hernandez was involved in the murder of his friend Odin Lloyd.

On Tuesday, ESPN reported that officers round a shell casing and blue bubble gum that they think will prove the ex New England Patriots player was present at the scene.

According to the site, North Attleborough police Detective Michael Elliott was cross-examined by Hernandez lawyer James Sultan.

The detective told the court that police were called by a rental car company worker, who told them several items had been removed from a car Hernandez rented and put in a trash bin. Elliott said police searched the bin and found the shell casing attached to the gum.

A new video provided by CNN also shows Hernandez calling Ernest Wallace (the man also being accused of the murder) from his attorney's phone. In that same video, which can be seen below, the athlete is also on camera tearing apart his phone.

It's unsure if the prosecutors will be able to use the video as evidence, but if so, Hernandez's attorneys will have to prove that while the video does allude to suspicious behavior, Hernandez is still innocent.

Hernandez is currently on trial for murder charges after police officials found the body of semi professional football player Lloyd (his fiancée's sister's boyfriend).

Based on their evidence, the prosecutors have concluded that Hernandez and his two friends, Carlos Ortiz and Wallace, picked Lloyd up at his home in Boston, drove him to the industrial park and shot him to death.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges, and he currently remains in the jail without bail.
