The Sunday night event will mark the 87th year of the prestigious awards. Consisting of 24 categories, the Oscars will honor the best of the year's films for everything from best actor/actress to best visual effects.

This year's top contenders include Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), which received nine nominations (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screen Play, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Supporting Actress) and The Grand Budepest Hotel, which also received nine nominations (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing).

The Imitation Game came in second with eight nominations while American Sniper and Boyhood each received six.
