Ida has officially won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards.

The Polish film beat strong competition from several other countries with their own highly praised films-including Timbuktu, Wild Tales, Tangerines and Leviathan.

The award was accepted by director Pawel Pawlikowski, who went on to speak right through the playoff music as he thanked those who helped bring him his-and Poland's-first Oscar win.

Pawlikowski started his speech by noting how his film--which follows the story of Anna, who learns she is Jewish right before going to take her vows as a nun, causing her to take a look back at the dark history of her family in Poland during the German occupation during WWII-is completely different from what the Oscars seemed to be about, making his win all the more surprising to him.

However, he didn't let the playoff music stop him from making sure to thank everyone he wanted to mention, despite initially being overwhelmed during the speech.

During the music, Pawlikowski continued to thank people, hilariously telling them to all drink, despite the band's attempts to ensure he left the stage.

The band director then was forced to give up, and stopped playing so he could finish his speech.
