As a lot of speculation surrounds the development of Iron Man 4, Enstars rounds up the latest updates about the film known to us.

Child Actor Harry Keener Replacing Robert Downey Jr. In Iron Man 4?

On February 26, Robert Downey Jr. shared a solo poster of him as the Iron Man in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. The poster looks like it could be a promotional image for Iron Man 4 but unfortunately that is not the case, and Downey Jr. recently clarified that fans should not assume that movies featuring him as the super hero in a pivotal role should not be confused for a fourth instalment of the Iron Man franchise.

In a recent interview, while talking about his role as Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War, Robert Downey Jr. cautioned fans against confusing it for the next instalment of Iron Man.

Robert Downey Jr. Talks Exiting Iron Man Franchise

Speaking to Empire magazine, the actor revealed that he had a pretty substantial role to play in Civil War and it seems like Stark will be one of the primary characters. But that being said, Downey Jr. felt the need to emphasize that it is not a continuation of the Iron Man franchise in anyway.

"Ultimately it's Steve's story; it doesn't say 'Iron Man 4: Civil War'. I think that's great too," he said. "I think Chris [Evans] has been hungry to bring even more of an underside and some shadow to that. I remember the comics - on the surface you got the sense that Cap was baseball and apple pie, but underneath there was all this churning stuff of being a man out of time. Now we know he's made his peace with that. What's the bigger issue? It can have a little something to do with the past, but it can be about someone becoming more modernized in their own conflict."

Although Downey Jr. might have walked out of the franchise, there's been buzz about Jeff Bridges reprising his role in the fourth chapter. Speaking to io9, the actor suggested that the Iron Monger, the character he played in the movie might still be alive.

"The Iron Monger falls into this big pit of whatever it is, some kind of acid or something, in his costume," he said. "They pull it up in the big crane and they open up his costume and he's gone."

Bridges went on to leave the answer to the prospect of his returning open-ended, adding that it was a possibility:

"And when we were shooting that film they said, 'No we're not going to do that. We're just going to have you go.' And I said, 'Oh shit, I was kind of disappointed.' Because I was thinking [I would] be in the sequels. But they said it's a comic book, maybe the Iron Monger will come back. I said 'Yeah, right.'"
