Fans of Netflix's Orange Is the New Black worried that the show might lose out on a bunch of Emmy nominations due to new rules still have some hope.

'Orange Is the New Black' Has To Compete in Drama Series at Emmys Now?

The Television Academy announced last week that there would be new rules in Emmy submissions for various shows. One of the most noteworthy rules was that half hour shows would have to submit in Comedy Series while hour-long shows would submit in Drama Series categories. As Orange Is the New Black is an hour-long show, this would mean they would have to switch from Comedy to Drama.

However, another rule states that shows will be able to petition to submit in the alternate category.

Larry Not Returning To 'Orange Is the New Black' In Season 3

Orange Is the New Black is expected to petition to stay in Comedy Series, according to a new report by The Hollywood Reporter.

Television Academy Chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum told the publication that the new rule change is "just a starting point."

He added that "I think the reaction is a bit misguided. This has been a gray area in our rules for quite a while."

Rosenblum said the Academy has already received a call from The CW president Mark Pedowitz to appeal for Jane the Virgin to be a comedy.

"These are not hard-and-fast rules," he asserted.

The Drama Series categories are often seen as more competitive than the Comedy Series categories, so fans were slightly concerned that Orange Is the New Black might not hold up against hard-hitting dramas like Game of Thrones or House of Cards.

There is no word on when the Television Academy will make a ruling on Orange Is the New Black.

Orange Is the New Black returns for season 3 in mid-2015 on Netflix, though the streaming service has not yet announced a specific release date.
