'The Voice' Coach Christina Aguilera Talks Being Inspired & Inspiring Others

Last week, The Voice's YouTube channel uploaded the first "retrospective" video involving Aguilera and today, Feb. 27, the second has been uploaded, in which Aguilera discusses why she joined The Voice.

Aguilera was a coach from Season 1 through Season 3, took a hiatus and returned for Season 5, took another hiatus and is back for the current eighth season.

Aguilera revealed the singing competition came to her with good timing since she "wanted to take a backseat.

"Mark Burnett [executive producer] brought this idea to me," she shared and at first she wasn't sold on it since she grew up competing on a music show called Star Search.

She said reality singing competitions tend to "bring out certain things I don't like."

Burnett insisted The Voice wouldn't be like any other reality singing competition though.

Aguilera was against "bashing talent" since she's been there and knows the courage it takes to get up on stage in the first place.

"I loved that also because of the authenticity that's involved in the blind auditions; the fact that you can't see anything so you can't really judge it based off of a look or a package deal," she explained.

"And this takes it back to the idea of real music where it was solely based off of radio and a sound and being moved and inspired by a voice and that's what's beautiful about this show," Aguilera said, adding, "I'm always happy to come back."

Tune in on Mondays and Tuesdays starting at 8 p.m. ET for Season 8 of The Voice on NBC.
