The Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Regina (Lana Parrilla) relationship is one of the most fascinating and complex on ABC's Once Upon a Time, and it looks like they won't be at odds much in the coming episodes.

'Once Upon a Time's Rumplestiltskin & Queens Of Darkness Set Out To 'Corrupt' Emma?

Once Upon a Time co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently to address the second half of season 4. Asked about where Emma and Regina will be in their friendship in the upcoming episodes, Kitsis said that there would be some growth.

"Emma and Regina have a rocky relationship, but Emma vowed to Regina, 'I'm the Savior, I'm going to bring back everyone's happy endings, including your own.'" Kitts's noted. "We saw an episode in the first half that she wanted to be Regina's friend. We're going to see Regina is a lot closer to Emma's mom, but we are going to see a new side to their relationship and some growth from the pilot, where Regina was going to drive Emma out of town no matter what."

Will 'Once Upon a Time's Regina 'Redeem' Herself As She Searches For Happy Ending?

Part of that growth is through Emma, Regina and Henry (Jared Gilmore) teaming up to find the Author, and ultimately, that much sought after happy ending. Through this process, Kitsis revealed that it won't just be villains who are looking for the Author.

And fans will be meeting the Author at some point during the season, which should make for an exciting reveal.

"The identity of who he or she may be and what their background is is something that we do intend to reveal in the second half of the season and makes up a major part of the second half of the season," Horowitz teased.

Once Upon a Time returns Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
