Previous release dates were July 11, 2013 for season 1 and June 6, 2014 for season 2, so most fans were anticipating a summer return within this vicinity for season 3.

Very few spoilers for season 3 of Orange Is the New Black have been revealed. One aspect of the show that has been addressed ahead of time, though, is the cast.

Laura Prepon (who plays Alex Vause) is returning to series regular status for season 3 after only being a guest star in season 2. On the flip side, Jason Biggs (Larry) is sitting out of season 3 as the show shifts its focus away from his character.

Many of the show's recurring guest cast will be bumped up to series regulars in the new season, including Selenis Leyva (Gloria Mendoza), Adrienne C. Moore (Cindy "Black Cindy" Hayes), Dascha Polanco (Dayanara "Daya" Diaz), Nick Sandow (Joe Caputo), Yael Stone (Lorna Morello) and Samira Wiley (Poussey Washington).

The show's other series regulars are all returning, including Taylor Schilling (Piper Chapman), Michael J. Harney (Sam Healy), Kate Mulgrew (Galina "Red" Reznikov), Uzo Aduba (Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren), Danielle Brooks (Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson), Natasha Lyonne (Nicole "Nicky" Nichols) and Taryn Manning (Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett).
