Van Amstel was not one of the 12 pros asked to dance on Dancing With the Stars this season, which he was not entirely thrilled about. The pro took to Twitter to discuss the decision and express his slight surprise.

"Now the DWTS cast is revealed I can talk again haha. I'm excited for this season as it celebrates 10 years on TV. Good luck all couples!"

When a follower tweeted back that "It isn't right. So much talk about return of former pros & they bring back one," van Amstel replied, "I'm quite surprised myself!"

He asserted to his followers that he would never turn down Dancing With the Stars if he was asked to return.

"Hopefully it's very clear that it was never my choice NOT to do this season. I would never say no to DWTS. I've always loved doing it," he tweeted.

Dancing With the Stars show runner Rob Wade previously said they had been contacting older pros to possibly return for season 20. Despite this, only one older pro ended up being cast, Kym Johnson.

Van Amstel's last season was season 15, where he competed with his celebrity pro Sabrina Bryan.

Dancing With the Stars is set to debut its 20th season on Monday, March 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
