Taylor Kitsch got some serious True Detective competition this week.

Glamorous Facade Hiding A Very Damaged Ani Bezzerides On 'True Detective'?

Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas posted a photo-shopped photo of his dog on Twitter Monday in a police vest and sunglasses. The artist joked that little Samy is "ready" for his new role on the show and that Kitsch better "look out" as production continues.

Ray Velcoro's Past Catching Up With Him On 'True Detective'?

Kitsch is set to play Officer Paul Woodrugh and was seen last month filming action sequences in Los Angeles alongside Rachel McAdams (Detective Ani Bezzerides) and Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro).

A major fan of the show's first season, Kitsch went out of his way to land a role in the crime drama's second installment. He turned down other projects and bided his time so that there would be no conflict with the program's production schedule. He auditioned and, much to the actor's pleasure, was chosen as one of the season's leading detectives.

While season 1 explored rural Louisiana, this time the series will follow the murder of a corrupt city manager in California. Creator Nic Pizzolatto has penned all the episodes, with Fast and Furious alum Justin Lin directing the premiere. At this time, the remaining directors have yet to be officially confirmed by the network.

True Detective will return on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
